Anthony Barr-Jeffrey, Ph.D.

Education: Masters in Community and Clinical Counseling from Eastern College (University). Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University.

Specialty Training and Experience: In addition to working in the Meier Clinics Day Treatment Program, Dr. Barr-Jeffrey has been a facilitator for Loving Couples/Loving Children (Gottman Institute Curriculum), a World of Difference Institute Anti-Bias educator, and a Dependable Strengths Articulation Process trainer.

Special Interests: Dr. Barr-Jeffrey has a wide range of interests that include marriage, family and parenting; career, job and life coaching; college student issues; culture and mental health, musicians, and band mentorship; clergy and pastoral stress management; and executive coaching.

Susan M. Carey, Ph.D.

Treatment Issues: Anxiety, Assessment for all Ages, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D.), Depression, Divorce, Family Issues, Head Injury, Learning Disabilities

Education: Masters in educational psychology and counseling at the University of Wisconsin. Masters in Theology, Masters in Clinical Psychology, and Doctorate in Clinical psychology from Fuller Seminary.

Specialty Training and Experience: Dr. Carey taught pre-school through twelfth grade, including special education and gifted studies, for fourteen years. She gained clinical and neurological experience working at the Brain Injury Unit of the University of Washington Hospital and at the Neurology Department at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She currently works as a school psychologist for Seattle Public Schools, Washington.

Publications: Dr. Carey was on the committee which developed the ethics manual for school psychologists in the State of Washington for the Washington Association of School Psychologists. She wrote chapters for a book on physical, emotional and spiritual healing, and introductions to chapters on cross cultural communication for Dr. Charles Kraft at Fuller Seminary. She also wrote a Divorce Recovery Coloring Book.

Lisa Day, R.N., M.S., Ph.D.

Education: Masters and Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Day is a registered nurse and licensed clinical psychologist.

Groups: Dr. Day currently facilitates a general process group.

Special Interests: Dr. Day's works extensively with depression, anxiety, addictions, abuse (sexual, verbal and emotional), and marital and couples counseling.

Daniel D. Hartman, Psy.D.

Treatment Issues: Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Character Disorders, Depression, Diagnostic Clarification Issues, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Education: Masters and Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) at Rosemead School of Psychology, Biola University, in La Mirada, California.

Specialty Training and Experience: Dr. Hartman has developed inpatient, outpatient, and day hospital programs. He has also trained and supervised therapists. He has been a licensed psychologist since 1987.

Groups: He currently facilitates two groups out of Northgate.

Special Interests: Includes depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder and character disorder in individual, group, and family formats. He enjoys the challenge of difficult diagnostic clarification issues and complex cases. Dr. Hartman provides individual, family, marital, and group psychotherapy.

Jeffrey Stover, M.S., L.M.H.C. Ph.D.

Treatment Issues: Anxiety, Bi-Polar Disorder, Depression, Marriage

Education: Master of Divinity from Talbot Seminary. Doctor of Psychology Degree from Seattle Pacific University.

Specialty Training and Experience: Dr. Stover joined Meier Clinic in 1999 in the outpatient Clinic and in 2001 began working in the Seattle Day Program.

Special Interests: Dr. Stover provides counseling for individual adults and couples and the treatment issues listed above.

COUNSELORS

Carol M. Christensen, M.A., L.M.H.C.

Treatment Issues: Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Career Loss, Codependency, Depression, Family Issues, Grief, Marital Stress, Middle Age Issues, Panic, Relationship Issues, Sexual Issues, Singles' Issues

Education: Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Speech Communications from the University of Washington. Graduate degree in Bible from Multnomah College of the Bible in Portland. Master's degree in Spiritual Nurture from Western Seminary in Seattle.

Specialty Training and Experience: Ms. Christensen gained mental health experience working at three inpatient psychiatric facilities and an outpatient chemical dependency center. She served for ten years as the executive director of a national youth organization. She spear headed a national campaign and committee addressing substance abuse and sexual issues students are confronting in public schools. She has served as an adjunct professor of counseling at Puget Sound Christian College and has over twenty years of Christian ministry experience.

Groups: Carol has developed groups based on her book Power Over Panic, Answers for Anxiety. In addition, she facilitates psychotherapy groups that include some of Meier Clinicss' best-selling titles: Avoiding Mr. or Ms. Wrong, The Mom Factor, Safe People, Boundaries, Addicted to Love, and Love is a Choice. She has also developed new therapy groups for women and spouses dealing with sexual issues.

Special Interests: Ms. Christensen's professional interests include anxiety disorders, depression and codependency. She enjoys working with those who struggle with family or marital stress, sexual issues, career loss, middle age and singles' issues, relationship issues, depression, grief, anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (O.C.D.), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (P.T.S.D.), GAD, and Bipolar Disorder. She works with families, individuals, and group counseling.

Publications: The first of Carol Christensen's three-volume self-help series, Power Over Panic, Answers for Anxiety. Additional books, Power Over Depression and Power of Codependency, are forthcoming in her soon to be released series. Her publishing credits include over sixty articles in Christian magazines: Discipleship Journal, Youthworker, Light and Life, The Standard, and Christianity Today's Your Church.

Michael T. Helfer, M.A.

Treatment Issues: Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Family/Relational Concerns, Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Education: Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University, 2008. He has been a Registered Counselor in the State of Washington since 2006.

Background and Experience: Michael has facilitated group therapy at the Meier Clinics in addition to working with individuals and couples. He is also participating in a research study involving adolescent substance use prevention.

Special Interests and Services: Michael works with individuals (adults and adolescents), couples, and families. He offers reduced fees to those who qualify per the Clinic's financial guidelines.

Hollie R. Swardstrom, L.C.S.W.

Education: Master's in Social Work from Aurora University. Nursing degree from Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's School of Nursing.

Specialty Training and Experience: Ms. Swardstrom worked previously as a Young Life staff and committee member; School Social Worker; DuPage County Public Health Nurse; and as a counselor and consultant in Juvenile Court. She also served an internship at a Family Center for Abused Women and Children and worked for the Healthy Mom, Healthy Kids Program. She has served as a clinical research coordinator for studies in panic, anxiety, depression, O.C.D., P.T.S.D., schizophrenia, and social anxiety disorders in all age groups.
